Read Biography

Dr. Dennis Trickett is an alumnus of Cumberland College, having graduated in 1979 with a B.S. in Psychology. In 1981, he earned an M.R.E. in Religion Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, followed by an Ed. D. in Psychology and Counseling in 1986. Prior to his returning to Cumberland in 1997 as a member of the faculty, Dr. Trickett spent ten years as a therapist and Director of Substance Abuse Prevention at the Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center.

Dr. Trickett is a member of the Society for Teaching of Psychology, the American Counseling Association, and the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors.

Read Biography

Dr. Eric Charles Stephens holds a B.A. in Psychology from Berea College, an M.A. in Applied Experimental Psychology from Western Kentucky University, and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology, and a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Kentucky. His interests include sport psychology, human factors psychology, and cognitive psychology.

Dr. Haley Turner Assistant Professor

Read Biography

Haley Crisp Turner joined the Cumberland faculty in 2007. She specializes in School Psychology. She earned a B.S. in Psychology from East Tennessee State University and received her Ph.D. in Education with a Concentration in School Psychology from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2007. She recently completed an APA-approved internship in School Psychology with a mental health agency in East Tennessee. During this internship, she specialized in diagnosing and intervention planning for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Dr. Turner commutes from Knoxville where she and her husband live. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the beach and lake.

Read Biography

Jane Moir Whitaker is a native of Nova Scotia, Canada where she obtained a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1988 from Acadia University. She taught public school and was a clarinetist with Symphony Nova Scotia for the next four years. She moved to Kentucky in 1992, where she obtained a Master of Divinity in pastoral care from Southern Theological Seminary in 1995. She also began doctoral studies in philosophy and religion, with an emphasis in phenomenology and perception. In 1995 she began work in a two year Clinical program as a hospital chaplain at the Alliant Health System in Louisville, KY. She was chaplain to the oncology unit of Kosair’s Children’s Hospital for two years and continued studies in grief therapy with children and their families.

Jane and her husband, Dean moved to Williamsburg in 1997, when he was hired at Cumberland College as the Director of Campus Ministries. Over the last 10 years, Jane has served Cumberland as Director of the Leadership and Community Services Program, Director of Mountain Outreach, and adjunct faculty in Religion and Philosophy. They have three children, Katherine, Caeden and Gavin.
